CollarChart is an independent site that sizes gear for dogs by breed and works out feeding portions and life stage.
It exists because dog gear is sold by breed name and fits by measurement, and the gap between the two is where almost every returned harness comes from.
Where the numbers come from
- the WSAVA and NRC resting energy formula: 70 × (weight in kg)^0.75
- crate size bands used consistently across manufacturers
- the AVMA size-based age table and the 2020 epigenetic clock published in Cell Systems
Every page states the source and the assumptions behind its figures, because a number without its assumptions is not much use. Where a range is a breed-standard figure rather than a measured average, the page says so.
Calories scale to the 0.75 power
Calories do not scale with body weight — the exponent is 0.75. A 40 kg dog needs about 1.7 times what a 20 kg dog needs, not twice. Feeding charts printed on bags interpolate in a straight line, which is why large dogs fed off the bag tend to end up heavy.
What this site does not do
We do not give veterinary advice. Nothing here covers illness, medication or therapeutic diets, and every page that touches feeding says plainly that puppies of large breeds, pregnant dogs and dogs with kidney, heart, pancreatic or endocrine disease need a plan from a vet.
Who runs it
One person, two dogs, and a tape measure that has been used in anger. There is no editorial team. What should earn your trust is that every range here names whether it came from a breed standard, a manufacturer size chart or a published weight study.
The sizing runs as code across every breed and item on the site, which means a wrong figure would be wrong in a visible pattern rather than hidden on one page. When something is wrong it gets corrected and the change is noted.
